Refreshing Your Real Estate License and Cross-State Acknowledgment in Maryland

Visit the Maryland Department of Labor website to renew your real estate license.2 Make sure you have your registration number, branch office number, and password ready to go. The renewal fee is $70.3

If your license has expired, you have three years to get it reinstated before you have to retake the real estate agent exam. You must also ensure you’re compliant with all required continuing education requirements, have paid past renewal fees, and paid a $150 reinstatement fee.

Reciprocal Licenses

The Maryland Realty Commission has reciprocal agreements with Pennsylvania and Oklahoma.1 That means the MREC will issue reciprocal licenses to licensees from either of these states.

To receive a reciprocal license, you must check the following boxes:

  • Have gained a license in Oklahoma or Pennsylvania
  • Have a license that is current and active
  • Submit a complete license history with your application
  • Submit a letter from a sponsoring broker (whose principal place of business is NOT in Maryland) with your application

With a reciprocal license under the Maryland-Pennsylvania, you are excused from exams and continuing education requirements. Under the Maryland-Oklahoma agreement, you must still pass the state portion of the test, but you are excused from continuing education.

A reciprocal license, as issued under the regulations of the Maryland Realty Commission, remains valid for a period of two years from the date of issuance.
